RELEASE

The Acha Foundation is delighted to announce the successful completion of its first school-web project, for the Presbyterian High School Batibo. The web project (code named PHSweb2) is one from a long list of similar projects being executed by the foundation.

The web project has been under development since early February 2006, and was running under the code PHSweb1, until November 2006, when the main sponsor and Project Manager E. M. Acha decided to halt the entire process. It was made clear that his intensions to halt the project was based entirely on the fact that, the technology used back then did not meet future Web challenges, such as meeting the WAI complaince, and many other future generation web challenges.

The breake lasted until early this year, after the development team, under his coordination met and re-lunched the project, this time under PHSweb2. The convincing results of this initiative can be viewed at http://www.phsbatibo.net . From what we understand, and to the best of our knowledge, this should be among the first, if not the first school to have completely gone online in the country or region, and for this we are proud to have realized the project. It is a massive website with close to a hundred and fifty viewable web pages or even more, by the time all the necessary material is made available. The structuring of the site delineates lots of professionalism, not mentioning the design and functionality.

It is worth mentioning here that the Acha Foundation is a non profit organization made up of individuals with similar goals and determination, who have all decided to use information Technology and all available resources as weapons to combat poverty in the developing countries. One of our first and major goal is to enable every single remote area of the world accessible on the web, even those still without the internet. The foundation believes giving each and every remote region the possibility to market their societies and culture to the rest of the world, and hence tabling their concerns and sharing their successes is a first step to combating poverty. Bringing the rest of the world closer to these people is a key to development.

The foundation provides services such as technical assistance and even to an extend financial assistance to aid micro projects, e.g. developing online marketplaces for community products, and promoting other sectors such as tourism. It is worth reiterating that the foundation is a non profit and non governmental organizations, and hence incurs every single cost. (i.e. from developing, hosting and administering the sites. They work very closely with other NGOs and help strengthen their efforts in whatever way they can. The foundation is able to satisfy its beneficiaries at no cost, thanks to its partnership with other institutions, co-operations as well as private donors.

Promoting education, especially in the ICT sector is one of the foundation’s Top Goals. It aims at presenting a “balance sheet” with a list of achievements by the end of 2015, a time when the rest of the world will be accounting on the UN Millennium Goals. We are confident the impact of our activities will change the lively hood of many with whom we will be chanced to partner with. We are currently engaged with projects in Cameroon, Ghana, Ethiopia, India, and Namibia.
